I was away from the PC most of the weekend and haven't read this yet, but will in the morning. I was wondering if you could take a little time and maybe delve into this part of the study a little more so Caren and I could receive even more enrichment. I don't mean to side-track you, but if you can add some more of your thoughts on the prophecy to Judah, they would be well-received... right, Caren? 8-)

Per your request Dori

Genesis 49:8-12 Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee. 9 Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. 11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes: 12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

The prophecy toward Judah is threefold in it's nature. One deals with Judah personally. One deals with the tribe that develops from Judah and the third is that of the Messiah who from the standpoint of the flesh sprang from Judah.

When it speaks of Judah being praised by his brethren it will speak of Judah's stature among his brethren and it speaks of David as the greatest king that sprang from Judah. In it's end prophecy it speaks of Jesus as Saviour and King.

From the tribe of Judah came the one who was over the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness during the exodus. Exodus 31:1-5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.

An interesting thing about Bezaleel is that his name means "shadow of God". Notice the attributes. Filled with the Spirit of God in (1) wisdom, (2) understanding and (3) knowledge. These are the attributes of Christ. Solomon builds the 1st temple in Jerusalem and of course Solomon is of Judah. Jesus sets forth the New Testament "temple" which is made without hands. 1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Every one chosen to build the tabernacle or temple was of Judah. When God chose Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem he was most likely a descendant of Judah. Only Benjamin and Judah comprised the two southern tribes known as Judah and Nehemiah was governor so most likely he was of Judah. The one who builds New Jerusalem is Jesus Christ, the son of David of the Tribe of Judah.

The tribe of Judah was very powerful in war as long as they followed God and were obedient. They could not be defeated until they started following after the ways of the 10 northern tribes of Israel and corrupted the true worship of God. The "Lion of the tribe of Judah" can never be defeated and when He comes back in glory at the advent He will defeat all the enemies of Israel and set up His kingdom that shall never end. Judah fought with a sword. Jesus will fight with a "two edged sword" that is in His mouth (Heb. 4:12, Rev. 1:16, Rev. 19:15,21).

"Lion's whelp": Judah as a "lion's whelp" is the son of Jacob. We find reference in the Book of Numbers as to Jacob being referred to as a lion. Numbers 23:23-24 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! 24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, (Israel) and lift up himself as a young lion: (Jacob) he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. The prophecy pertains Jacob and his offspring as being victorious over the Moabites. It's end time prophecy of again of Jesus victorious and not resting until the victory is won. We think of the sabbath as the 7th day and it is. It is the day that God rested from his labors in the creation. The scriptures in 2 Peter 3:8 is one day equals a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. This is prophetic time and the context is the advent of our Lord. This would put us 6 days from the creation (6,000 yrs) and the Kingdom sabbath is upon us when the Lord will set up His "rest" for that 1,000 years. (see Heb. 4:1-11).

The "scepter" and "Shiloh": The passage of course deals with God's appointment of the tribe of Judah to be the tribe of the Kings of Israel. Saul, of Benjamin, was a usurper in the sense that, although chosen by God, he was God's punishment to Israel for rejecting His direct rulership over Israel. The first King that starts the prophecy into play is David. The prophecy starts with Him and it will end with Jesus. The kings of Judah were of an unbroken line to the Babylonian captivity. There has not been a king since the captivity. In the days of Nehemiah and Ezra the temple and the walls were rebuilt but no king was anointed. Governors appointed by the conquerors of the land ruled up until the time of Jesus. When Jesus rode the ass's colt and she ass into Jerusalem the people were proclaiming Him king. He was subsequently crucified and arose the third day as Saviour, having completed His mission of salvation. Had Israel accepted Him as King of the Jews, then He would have been crowned and Rome would have been defeated. Caesar would have fulfilled the role of the prophesied anti-Christ and the Kingdom would have started. The prophecy now will be fulfilled at the second advent of Jesus to the Mount of Olives at the end of the tribulation period and the Kingdom rest will start.

As stated in the regular posting the wine and grapes are tied to the prophecy of the winepress which is an allegory to the crushing victory that Jesus will inflict on the world at that time. The blood truly will reach to the horse's bridles.
