Genesis 41:33-45 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. 35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine. 37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. 41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; 43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. 45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
Joseph has much in common with the prophet Daniel. He is made second ruler in the kingdom because of his interpreting the dreams of Pharaoh. Daniel was made second ruler in the kingdom (Dan. 2:48) for interpreting the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar. Both Joseph and Daniel are great types of Christ. Both lives foreshadow events in the life of Christ although Joseph to a greater extent than Daniel.
Joseph suggests to Pharaoh, in light of the coming events, that he set a man over the land of Egypt to gather 20 per cent of all the food grown in the next seven years. It is to be stored in the cities until such a time as the food supply of Egypt is depleted due to the coming drought and resultant famine.. Pharaoh is so impressed by Joseph and his wisdom in the matter that he says: "Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?" Pharaoh recognized in Joseph what Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar and Darius all saw in Daniel. This is what the people of Israel saw in Jesus Christ. They saw the Spirit of God was in Jesus and the power of God was on Him. These Old Testament kings may have been idol worshipping pagans but they recognized an excellent spirit when they saw it and the knew the power of God was on Joseph and Daniel.
" (1) Thou shalt be over my house, and (2) according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: (3) only in the throne will I be greater than thou." Compare this with Jesus Christ: (1) "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. " (Matt. 28:18) (2) "The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." (John 12:48) (3) "Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I." 1 Corinthians 15:27 For he (the Father) hath put all things under his (the Son's) feet. But when he (the Father) saith all things are put under him (the Son), it is manifest that he (the Father) is excepted, which did put all things under him (the Son).
The set up is prophetical of the life of Jesus and the kingdom setup that will be coming. In verse 42 Joseph receives the attire of a king. "And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; " The ring is the signet of the king. Notice the "fine linen:" In Daniel 10:5 when the Lord appeared to Daniel by the river Hiddekel he was clothed in linen. While we are not specifically told the Saviour wore white linen it is assumed He did and does as is shown in Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. The gold chain also is a sign of royalty and calls to mind the vision of the Lord that Daniel had in Daniel 10:5-6 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: 6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. (See also Rev. 1:13.
Joseph is made to ride in the second chariot which would be the equivalent of Air Force 2 for the vice president of this country. Notice also these words of Pharaoh to Joseph: "without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt." Utter control of the kingdom. Egypt in the Bible is a microcosm of the world. It is a symbol of the world that is used often. Jesus was called out of Egypt. He was called out of the world. Israel is called out of Egypt and will be called out of the world system. The Church is called out of the world. The setup for Joseph is the setup of Jesus in the Kingdom. Absolute power and authority to run things. Revelation 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
Having pointed out the similarities of the rule of Joseph with the rule of Jesus we now need to be aware of something else that is being set up in Egypt. This picture will show the darker side and if this is a prophecy of the end times we will see the condition of the world at the time of the 2nd advent and just prior. Notice that a 20 percent of the food is put under the control of the government. Notice that the setup mandates that one man will control the food supplies of the "world" (Egypt) Notice in verse 43 the people will be made to "bow the knee" as Joseph comes into their presence. In the life of Joseph we have a dual prophecy and this really should not be surprising as the anti-Christ will be a false Christ and will be taken for the "real McCoy". when he shows up. He will have all power and only Satan will be more powerful. He will control the buying and selling.. He will be the final usurper to the legitimate throne of Jesus as the Son of David. As we look further in this study we will see that under the setup of Joseph the possessions of the Egyptians will be delivered to the government and they will own nothing. Their lands will be traded for the food which was taken from them in order for them to survive. Joseph will be looked on as the "Great Saviour" yet when he gets done and the famine is over their will be a communistic system set up that did not exist before Joseph.
Lest we wonder about this we need also to be reminded that God is setting the stage for the slavery of Israel to Egypt and the subsequent coming out of Egypt. God is showing us the condition the world will fall into in the last days. Under Joseph, the type of Christ, Egypt has a saviour. Under Joseph the type of the anti-Christ the people are ruined and all must go to him for their living. While 666 is not mentioned you can see the implications of such power in the hands of one man!
Looking at the trend in government today can we not see a trend across the world which will centralize power into the hands of one man. I believe it has started even in America.
