Charlie and I took a tour to Springfield IL, Lincolnland, to see some of the historical sights, one of which was the new museum of all things Lincoln. They had a room full of political ads and cartoons of when Lincoln was running against Douglas and I was horrified to read the vitriol and hatred that was widespread in the papers and books of that time. He truly was one of the most loved and the most hated presidents this country ever had. Today is mild in comparison to those articles. It was sad and disgusting. So, it seems no matter how we think we've progressed, some things never change--going clear back to the days spoken of in Genesis.
