In reply to: Hillbilly 's message, "Genesis 27 vss. 30-38 Post 141" on 10:18:32 11/25/10 Thu

of the worldly person. He was a person who "sacrificed the eternal on the altar of the immediate". He gave up his birthright which would normally have been his and his progeny from then on, for a bowl of soup and bread.

He married idol worshiping women because he knew it would grieve his folks (Gen. 26:34-35, 28:6-9). These last wives he took for pure spite because he saw that Jacob was favored because of his obedience to his father.

God chose Jacob over Esau for two main reasons that I can see. First and foremost because of "election". Election is where God chooses the second over the first. Isaac was a second son. Jacob was a second son. Shem was a second son. Able was a second son. Jesus was called the second man and the last Adam. The New Testament superseded the Old Testament. The New Heavens and Earth will supersede the Old Earth and heavens. David was the second king etc.. All these point to the first being discarded and the second established. We must be born again. The "new man" will live forever and replace the "old man" which must die. The flesh comes before the spiritual man.

This is the order of God and can be found throughout the Bible.

The second reason Esau was rejected was God's foreknowledge of Esau's life. Esau was a rebellious son who was so full of pride he could not accept his own responsibility for losing his birthright. God saw his character before he was born and passed over him.

Jacob was a rascal there can be no doubt but he honored his parents and obeyed. He paid dearly for his transgressions but grew through his trials and developed the character that pleased God and Jacob wound up walking by faith calling on God.

Esau mirrors the life of the rebellious God rejector and Jacob mirrors the life of the sinner who comes to repentance and after much trial falls on his knees before God.

What a beautiful explanation of being "born again." Thank you.

Gosh, there's so much hidden within the words of scripture--we only have to dig for the pearls!

even though it be a precious gem must be peeled in order to see the most valuable and perfect part. The outer layers are rather dull and plain looking.

It is under the outer layers that lie the precious part.

Peel back the layers of scripture and within is revealed the nuggets that bring such precious truths.

Very true, indeed. And isn't the pearl made up of the contents within--a thing of beauty formed from a mass of sea gunk?

irritant in it's flesh.

Pictures the "pearl of great price" which came forth of sin. The Church is not a thing of beauty until Christ transforms it and peels the old flesh to bring forth the new body fashioned like His glorious body.
