even though it be a precious gem must be peeled in order to see the most valuable and perfect part. The outer layers are rather dull and plain looking.

It is under the outer layers that lie the precious part.

Peel back the layers of scripture and within is revealed the nuggets that bring such precious truths.

Pictures the "pearl of great price" which came forth of sin. The Church is not a thing of beauty until Christ transforms it and peels the old flesh to bring forth the new body fashioned like His glorious body.
