That Daniel would foretell his own death and in doing so reveal what was to come with Jesus?

in many ways was allegorical of the coming Messiah. It was not that Daniel was prophesying knowingly but many of the details of his life were prophetic of the coming Messiah. In the saga of the lions den we see death portrayed without Daniel actually dying. Think back to Isaac and you will see how his life played out much of the crucifixion without him actually dying or having knowledge of the coming Messiah.

When Daniel went into the den of lions it was allegorical of the soul of Jesus in the heart of the earth. The heart of the earth is the abode of the fallen angels and contains hell. Jesus, went to the heart of the earth (Matt. 12:40) when he died. His body stayed in the tomb but his soul went to the heart of the earth.

While there he preached to those imprisoned spirits there (1 Peter 3:18-20) The bottomless pit is in the heart of the earth and at the time of Jesus death paradise or Abraham's bosom was also.(Luke 23:43 and Luke 16:22) This paradise section where the souls of saved men were kept until the resurrection of Jesus (Matt. 27:52-53)was in fairly close proximity to the torment part of the heart of the earth (Luke 16:23). Metaphorically speaking Jesus was in close proximity to the "lions" (demons, evil spirits) that would have destroyed Him if they had been able.

Daniel had no way of knowing all this and I doubt if God revealed it to him. This is just one more proof of the hand of God on the events in the Bible that foretold of the events that would take place in the life and ministry of Jesus.
