Subject: Shovelnose ray spotted!

A 2m white-spotted shovelnose ray paid us a visit during our morning dive at Black Coral Garden on 19th sep. WoOoo hOoOo~ simply majestic!

Btw, i would like to know how diving in Redang is like in Oct or early March. Any1 with experience to share? Will the visibility be veri bad? Now the visibility is quite poor. Currents strong too.

Never seen guitarfishes (shovelnose ray) in Redang yet - must have been an exciting encounter for you!

The few dives I've done in October, vis was not that great. Perhaps due to sediment churned up by rougher waters closer to monsoon. So probably same story in March though I've heard a couple of times from different divers that the day after a heavy storm usually offers calm waters and good diving (even during monsoon). As far as I can remember, my best dives in Redang waters was in April this year.

Vis can be an unpredictable thing, like the weather. I've had bad vis in the morning and great vis in the afternoon on the same day. Perhaps Forrest Gump should have said 'Life is like diving (not a box of chocolates), you never know what you're going to get' :)

Alex.
