Never seen guitarfishes (shovelnose ray) in Redang yet - must have been an exciting encounter for you!
The few dives I've done in October, vis was not that great. Perhaps due to sediment churned up by rougher waters closer to monsoon. So probably same story in March though I've heard a couple of times from different divers that the day after a heavy storm usually offers calm waters and good diving (even during monsoon). As far as I can remember, my best dives in Redang waters was in April this year.
Vis can be an unpredictable thing, like the weather. I've had bad vis in the morning and great vis in the afternoon on the same day. Perhaps Forrest Gump should have said 'Life is like diving (not a box of chocolates), you never know what you're going to get' :)
