The train will work if your going to Perhentian but if going to Redang, it takes just too much time. There is no coach from Kota Bharu to Merang. You have to take the coach from Kota Bharu to Jerteh/Pasir Puteh then another coach to Kuala Besut before boarding yet another coach to Merang. Or from Kota Bharu to Kuala Terengganu and then to Merang. Taxi's are available for the trip but it think it will be too expensive for most.
