Hi Laura-- don't listen to the above poster and stay with it. Pool running is the best alternative cross training method. It is the best method since it is most specific to the running motion on land. As a result, to max your time in the pool, make sure you running form in the pool resembles your dryland form. The best way I can think of describing the running technique in the pool is a "running B". I'd also suggest an aqua vest, so that you can concentrate on proper arm carriage rather than having them attempt to keep your head above water.

Hope your time in the pool is short term but if not the recover time back to full fitness for injuried athletes that have pool trained is well documented.

Good luck.
