Laura... I'm insulted that you would post a message on this board and not just ask me (aka pool runner extraordinaire).

Here's my advice:

First few times, definitely use a floaty belt. It makes it a lot easier, but it's really important to get the motion right. Remember that it's not exactly like running so try some different techniques and see what feels best (of course, try to keep it as close to running as possible).

Also, concentrate on the first part of your stride and not on the kick back part. Kicking back won't really help at all so it's more like doing an "A". Another thing to keep in mind is to stay upright as much as possible - most people end up leaning way forward to help them float and then it's not really like running at all, is it?

Finally, as soon as you feel comfortable taking the belt off I would say go for it because it makes it a heck of a lot harder. As for running with the belt, concentrate on turnover and don't worry that you're not going very fast (just make sure you're in the slow lane or you'll get dirty looks.

Oh - one more thing. I find the time passes a lot more quickly if I do some type of fartlek while i'm in there - even if it's not hard.

So there you go Laura-Smora but don't think I'm not insulted that you didn't call me for advice - you're dead when I'm home next week!

Love you!!!!!

kathleenie
