Years and years ago, Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimers. I remember watching the news that night it was announced. At that time I knew just about nothing about that disease and learned most of it thru the news about Reagan as the days, months and years went by. Reagan's "slips" became understandable and looked upon with condescendence.
Then years later my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers. All I could think of was Reagan. Reagan's disease. "How is Reagan now? Is my dad going to be like him?"
The years went by, my dad's Alzheimer took it's course, and he died in 5 years after being diagnosed, 3 years ago. Even at my dad's funeral I thought of Reagan "dang... he's still alive..."
Alzheimers is very hard on the patient and the family, that's no news anymore. My heart really goes out to Mrs Reagan for caring for her husband for almost 20 years in such condition.
Today it was one of those days a lil movie played in my mind over and over.
