Subject: Indian Excitement

Hi Ladies,

I just remembered the most incredible thing!! I was looking over patchwork primer (volume 1) to get ready for school in the fall.

I was reading over the activities involving Indians. There's like six weeks of studying Indians.

I remembered that my husband's uncle (his dad's brother) had done a lot research into their family heritage and had linked their family to the Creek tribe of Indians. He has now gone (as has Mike's dad) to join this tribe. Somehow if you can prove the bloodline, you can join in the tribe. They have to go through their training and attend their meetings.

This tribe is not kooky or anything. Many of them are Christians.

Anyway, when we study Indians in August, we are going to go as a family to one of their ceremonial meetings. I think it's really going to make this unit come to life for my children to realize that they are actually part Indian like we are studying.

We're also going to invite my husband's uncle over for dinner and have him go over the ancestry (spelling?) with us so we can see how it all ties together. I know he's been going to the tribal meetings for a couple of years so I know he'll have a lot to share too. We'll probably have them come for dinner before we go to one of the Indian meetings.

Just had to share!
Connie
