I met Ray in the 80's in Jersey when he was with Rondinelli.Right when I heard him sing I knew this guy had It;his voice & style was very unique;you could tell his singing was in a totally different level.I play guitar & back then I
I played lead guitar in various bands & never found a lead singer that would go out on his own;they would either be a clone of whoever/or whatever was hot at the time;or just a screamer;but Ray was totally original;you could hear the influences ;but he was still in a class by himself;the attention & the offers he started receiving from the established bands in the business was a testament to the fact that he had IT.I saw him at the Ritz & at a club in upstate N.Y. & NO ONE could hold a candle to what he was doing with his voice;he KNEW how to sing;I saw him once more in a city bus (of all places) in Cliffside Prk,N.J.,I was on the way to see my girlfriend & he was on the way home;he immediatley recognized me & got up to say hello!. What struck me about him was the down to earth;kindness that he had toward other people;& also here was this guy that was playing the major circuits & now was going to sing with BLACK SABBATH,& he still had his feet on the ground & remembered someone who had bumped into him months ago!Right away I knew he was a special person along with the IMMENSLY talented singer that he was.I can't imagaine what his talent would have brought him;because he was one of the best rock singers that i've ever heard;& I know that you've heard it all before;but it was a GREAT honor to be able to see him sing live & appreciate that here was a talent of HUGE porportions that would at any given moment EXPLODE into the ROCK WORLD & make his mark in music.Mrs. Gillen ,your son was GREAT.
