But he strikes it harder, snapping the twig, then just stared at it, mouth tugging into a frown, just staring. He didn't want to say sorry; addmitting mistakes in words was not easy for him; at least not with sincerity. But he was sorry. Sorry for being a jerk; sorry for just being him. He dropped the stick.

"Hey. You only scared me half to death is all. Not important."

The words were harsh and he still did not look at her. This wasn't what he wanted; he had been fearful for her; guilty, terrified, and angry all at once, and he just wanted to be friends again. As the thoughts passed through his mind he temporarily lost a grip. When he felt his eyes water, he did stare dead ahead, wiping a hand across his forehead, and subtly, his eyes, as if the fire was too hot. He would not cry. Would not. He hadn't cried in a long time. Finnally, he turned, only the upper part of his body.

"I'm...I'm sorry too."
