Subject: Ford Windstar

We have a 99 windstar 3.8l that has the checkengine light on. The code says misfire. Ford says the cam shaft sensor is in the wrong place. They want to charge $500 to "go in and manually turn the shaft to align it" It is reading cylinder 4 when it should be 1 or something. No parts only labor, so extended warranty won't cover. Can this be right? I find it hard to believe you have to take apart the engine to align a sensor, and how could it get misaligned anyway? We want to trade in asap (already replaced the tranny at 45000 miles!), but want to get the check engine light fixed.
