Subject: 2000 Focus Engine Ruined

My daughters car was driven 25 miles, stopped for at least an hour then 15 miles later - the air went off and engine overheated. It was towed to a dealer and at first they said it was probably a head or gasket malfunction. Needed a new engine. The extended warranty people flew in did a boil test on the thermometer and said it failed, said the driver drove the car too long which caused extensive warpage to the block. They will only pay for $900 (thermostat, gasket & some kind of boot - unrelated find?) of $5000.00 to fix the car. The car has 42,000 miles on it. Driver denies it was heating. Is there any other possibility????? She is going to arbitration, small claims etc.
I had a failed head gasket (about same milage) noticed by an oil leak and they said someone could've let it run out of coolant 30,000 miles previously. Anyone know of good research places?
