If by "The air went off" you mean the A/C quit working then the belt came off and the water pump quit pumping wich smoked the engine rather quickly. But if the thermostat stuck then it was just circulating water through the engine and none was going to the radiator because of the thermostat closing the path to the radiator. But either way to run an engine hot enough to warp the block there were sufficient warnings that should have been noticed. The temp guage was buried and I'm sure there was a slight hint of coolant in the air not to mention the heat that was no-doubt coming from the firewall and floor of the car. If however it was the thermostat that stuck then they should replace it. Because at that milage a thermostat is not a mantainace issue. By replace it I mean the engine.
