Recently, the check engine light in my '93 Accord came on and stayed on while I was driving the freeway at a speed ranging from 70-80mph after 40 minutes. The car ran fine, so I chose to keep going and drove it for another 2 hours to get to my destination. I did pull over once to refuel and when I started the car, the check engine light was off. However once I got back on the freeway and hit 55-60mph, the check engine light came back on and stayed on.

This happened on my way back home, after 40 minutes of driving it on the freeway, it came on again and stayed on. On Monday morning, I drove the car to school (about 25 miles on freeway) and the light did not come on. After leaving the car out in the parking lot in the sun for a good 6 hours, I drove it back home and when I did so, within 5 minutes the check engine light came on came on right when I hit a speed of 55-60mph.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking something wrong is with a sensor, but the thing is the check engine light does not constantly stay on. Only during those times as described. I haven't driven the car long enough in far distances since Monday. I'm thinking this problem is heat related. Is it safe to drive the car? Do I need to take the car to a dealership so they can run a diagnostic?

I enjoy driving this car a lot. It's only got 103k and I hope that this isn't a serious problem.
