Glen or anyone,

I know we have talked about this in the past, but I am not sure we talked about the function of the valve.

My 89 Accord DX has 290k on it. This past winter it developed a new problem. With engine cold, when started, the RPMs go to about 3k then rapindly drop to about 1200 and the car idles like it is missing a cylinder. I chased the vacuum lines and found that by pinching line 19 located near where the clutch cable comes through the car that the idle went back to about 3k and the car runs normal.

That vac line runs down to a valve that has two other lines running into it. This valve is threaded into the engine block and is actually in contact with the coolant system. Is this thermovalve A, and based on its function could this be the cause of the problem or are there other diaphrams on that line that could be the source. Note, at warmer temps the car starts and runs normal. In fact the problem goes away before the engine even comes to temp, so what ever is causing this I am guessing is near a great source of heat, or like this valve in contact with the engine coolant.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Mike
