Dear Angie,

You left us with a lot of questions. Asking us (a homeschooling message board) to tell you that public school is okay is like asking us if it's okay to use a certain curriculum. We are all different and our family dynamics are all different. It truly depends on where you are located that would determine whether YOUR public schools are "okay" and a lot will depend on the specific teacher your student might have.

BUT we haven't even discussed your homeschool and why you feel like you failed. Many of us think about putting our children into traditional schools throughout our homeschooling experience. Often when our students are approaching high school that is a strong attraction. LOL BUT that is not necessarily the best thing for our student.

I assume you decided to homeschool for a reason. Has that reason changed? Did you have a hard year this year? How old is your student? What do you see as the traditional school's advantage over you? Could some of your issues this year be resolved by using a different teaching approach?

You see, I am a deep believer in the fact that no one will love your student like you will. That means a great deal in building their self confidence, in teaching them that home is a secure place. Does that mean I am a perfect teacher in all subjects? NO Does that mean that I never fight with my student about work or other issues? NO I feel like there is a lot you are not telling us and that makes it harder for us to give you any intelligent reply.

Anyway, we'd be glad to give you some help if we really knew what the issues are. Unless we live in your neighborhood, we might not be able to tell you if YOUR public school is "okay". (but is YOUR HOMESCHOOL not "okay"? Is "okay" the standard? - Please know I am not picking on you, just trying to help you see the forest from the trees).
