I'm glad to see you here.
I have to disagree that the posts here have little value. The BoM covers a 2500 yr period, but 70% of the book focuses on the 80yrs of self-rule ("reign of the judges") and the struggles to preserve the freedom of self-rule. Mormon told us he saw our day and when he abridged the records, he chose events and principles that were vital to our time. That tells me that the principle of self-rule is vital, that the political paths the people choose are extraordinarily important for the emotional, social, physical and, yes, spiritual welfare of God's children.
Our prophets tell us that this nation was founded in part so that it could shelter the restored church. We also know this will be the continent of the New Jerusalem and the seat of Christ's earthly Kingdom. We have an obligation to preserve the freedoms gifted us as well as preserve them for the time of our King's return. That's why these political topics are so important to us, why we get so adamant about them.
I'm sorry to hear you're having heart problems. It sounds like the Lord is truly sustaining you. I hope He blesses us by giving us many more years of your insight and friendship.
