that that was going to be the outcome, didn't we? The man is a monster but I wish that at least we'd pretended we cared about justice and the rule of law.

Dh listened to Saddam's American defense lawyer, Curtis Doebbler, in an interview on a Canadian talk radio show. He told of hundreds of points where the court simply did what it wanted with out any due process or following the law. You'd think that in a capital case like this the US would want the court to dot every i and cross every t so that no one, even Saddam's biggest, most loyal supporters, could fault the outcome. As it is, even his enemies are repulsed by the actions of the courts.

An interesting sidelight--Doebbler said that the verdict was to have been read on Oct 17, but that US authorities had it delayed until one day before elections. I guess Bush hoped that it would give his yes-men a little more punch at the polls.
