Hello. I have beedn sitting for a chinese crested that i feel is neglected and ignored. I am actually trying to adopt him but may not be able to. Either way I am giving him the best care possible and want to educate his parents so they can care for him better too. They are young and it seems like it may have been a trend for them unfortunately. and the novelty is wearing off.

Bowie came with numerous black heads, red irritated skin, fleas, and very timid and fearful. They haave had him for two years.

While with us, the peeing in the house is getting better. He is getting more socialble, walking better on a leash and much more lovable. But my main concern is his skin. i have taken him to the vet a few times. But recently it seems like he got an allergic reaction to something, possibly sunscreen or? We are in Cali and it has been warm and he loves playing outside. He follows me all the time out there.

When buying him products, I look at ingredients and avoid lanolin. But his legs and back are recently very red and chaffed. I am using alot of aloe now. I used a spray his mom gave me but it may be the problem. it is neutrogena. maybe its something else. Anyway, I wash him weekly with Malaseb but I don't think it is good enough, his mom gave me and I think she only used it once. She doesnt seem to care too much or know too much about her dog.
My vet gave me Oxydex, which i havent tried yet. i give Bowie a weekly sugar scrub, I use an exfoliator for his body and have gotten rid of numerous blackheads. But what should i use daily for moisture and sunscreen. Something is irritating him. he licks everything off too. hates when I want to put anything on him. I am going to try Shea/cocoa butter from lubriderm, i used baby oil but seems clogging. What is natural and safe? Should i get some hydrocortisone for his red chaffed area? and what percentage?

I also noticed some roughness or bumpy area on the back of his neck but are they internal clogging or is it only the ripples in his neck? and thick skin?

I will probably take him to vet again but i don't think they know much about these dogs either and can cause more harm sometimes. I have heard of honey? Please Help me. I love this dog and want him feeling his best. Please recommend shampoos, sunscreens, moisturizers, possible astringent??? websites to learn more? HELP desperate and learning
