OK, I'm DVD illiterate! First off I need the correct terminology to describe what I'm seeing. I have noticed that when playing some DVD movies, either to the screen or to the TV, I see 2 artifacts: 1) a "squareness" or "blockiness" to the edges of the objects I'm viewing and 2)this is tough to describe...when their is less lighting in the movie ie., shadows, underwater, dark scenes, there is a negative (as in a photo negative) effect to the screen. I don't know how else to describe it. Im sure its a digital artifact but I don't know the words for it.

Next question. Can these artifacts be improved? I wondered if the problem was the display card/drivers. I even updated the C&T drivers but had the same problems as everyone else with those, so I reverted back. I got to thinking though that if the problem also existed on the TV, then it was not likely the video sub-system and associated drivers since the Vivante XL bypasses the video system on its way out. Therefore, it is either a hardware limitation, the DVD itself or the DVD drivers.

Here's where my ignorance really shows. Is the DVD player and the DVD drivers one and the same? How does one update the DVD drivers or the DVD player? I've been to the RealMagic home page (the DVD Player I have) and am not sure what to look for. To make it all the more confussing the DVD itself is made by Matshita. Is this the driver update I should be looking for?

Sorry this is so long but any light on the DVD subject would be helpful. Thanks

Jeff
