Hello Tom!
I'm an old Rotherhithe Nautical School boy but a bit after your time. I went to New Quay and left to join TS Exmouth when the school came back to Blackfriars in London.
I have fond memories of New Quay. I lived in the converted Chemist shop on the front. I remember Capt. Harvey! and the seamanship lessons in the building on the pier. Incidentally, I have a brother who was at Rotherhithe before the war but was turned down for the navy because he was too small. No problems when war was declared though!!!
He served on HMS Valorous and HMS Finisterre. I went to sea in the Merchant Navy for 7 years and then signed in the army and did 22 years !! Happy Days eh? I think that lads who served on training ships and went to sea can really say "been there, done it and got the tee-shirt" Cheers Tom. TTFN. J.C
