Sounds too good to be true? Well, I know Jonathon and Kev are both out of work right now but here's an idea..... Every message is talking "Bring them back to WCKG or bring them back to the LOOP" C'mon now... they are already coporate and its over with them. But how about a new station. I know I don't have the funds (I didn't win the powerball jackpot but I am trying the Big Game!!) but I know someone out there does. It's a risk but a little one. I'd even help in doing what I can to make the station popular. Now let's look at this... Jon in the morning, music afternoon, and Kev in the everning. This way you can listen in the morning in your car, music for the afternoon (the majority really never listen to the radio anyway) and the ride home you can have a chuckle or two. Now I know there are some people that listen in the afternoon but not all of us work by a radio all afternoon. This way you can set your morning commute and afternoon commute to a large population. Look I know this was almost a similar setup by the Loop years ago but it worked! Just look at the ratings. The LOOP and WCKG had good reputations but now its history. The facts are here: Chicago loves these guys and now that they are are gone all we do is we complain but no one does anything about it. We just move on and I don't know about any of you but I am tired of flipping through the stations trying to find something to make me laugh. If I had the money I would try this. Now I know the corporate junkies will try to do something but I know that with a little time this dream can happen. Now at first we are not looking at huge numbers but with time they will come back and listen to these guys. Advertising should be no problem since all you have to do is tell them that Jon and Kev are on one station and some of those advertising guys (and girls) were at least one time or another was a Kevhead or a Showgram listener. I know they would advertise with no problem at all (statistically we are a large population of people and right now we are just split in all directions ( The Eric & Kathy group, The Stern Group and the Mancow Group) but look at the ratings for Chicago. Eric & Kathy are number one and next up is Kevin's morning show. This is not the Coporate ratings since that is alot of crap. This is strictly from the Chicago City Search.com's tally of best morning radio show. The voting was from people like you and me and not some corporate number crunchers who feels that this is what we listen to. I know that deep down inside everyone who reads this feels the same way about our radio. It helps us through the good times and bad. The morning commute and afternoon commute would be easier (and alot enjoyable) if these guys are back. Now prove me if I'm wrong but I am sick and tired of listening to crap. How about you? Well, where is it? Hugh told me that was Derrick and Johnny were sending those e-mails out. I was wondering if they were going to post pics from the proms and stuff.
Kev mentioned he was going to produce films remember.... He may not even be interested in radio anymore. Let me explain as you get older your interests change perhaps the reason why the show got the way it had was Kev's genuine lack of interest in it. Besides "Kevin Matthews" is not even his real name.
It was fun while it lasted though. I'll be watching those fishing shows to look for him and checking film credits. He should come back down to earth and print his real name so others could look for it.

We were at Groucho's Saturday and the Friday nite DJ there who's name is also Kev got beat up. A bunch of guys piled on him at first then they dragged him around the dance floor where random onlookers took consecutive punches at him making contact with various parts of his chubby body. The South Side is really great. It scared the hell out of Hughey though.

I really did not have a complaint but more of a question. On the radio I heard them talking about a concert coming up, I think on the 13th of December. Not sure the exact date. But it was with blink 182, sum 41 and some other bands too. I am really interested in it but I can't seem to find out any more info on it. Are they doing a concert together in ILLinois somewhere? I hope to find out about it because I am sure I heard something about it.

Lets face it, he sucked.
Animal stories???? come on, the voice was pretty stupid.
Chicago Radio has very few bright spots, Kevin Matthews wasn't one of them.
Now if they would only fire Mancow, Radio in Chicago might have a chance to be decent.
The only thing that really sucks about Kevin Matthews getting dumped is that in some way my tax dollars support his unemployment.
Ratings don't lie, radio is a business, if he got ratings or made the company money, he'd still be on the air. For those of you who have been whining and complaining about ABC, its a PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANY! That means people OWN STOCK, and invest money to make a PROFIT! If the company makes poor decisions that don't make them a profit, then you don't have that company around long. Since ABC/Disney have been around ohhh 80 years or so, they know enough about good business decisions and bad ones... Business is business, and firing Kevin was good business if you ask me.

Why did you bother even checking out this site if you don't like Kev. You are probably a Mix listener, nice station, a mix of 20 songs every hour over and over again. The only thing I agree with you is about Mancow, he is a copycat and a fraud, yet somehow he still has a job.
I found Animal stories to be quite humerous, Kev did a better job at it than Lujack did. I hope that Kev resurfaces somewhere soon, Chicago radio is a joke. For me, the only halfway decent station is the Loop. I find myself listening to radio over the net. Omaha has better stations than Chicago. Anyone who likes the Loop should check out the Bone in San Fran.

I totally disagree with you about Kev! He is very under rated, he just wasn't allowed to be funny. All of us old school KevHeads could see that!
My question is, where is the light of hope for Chicago radio? It is horrible!! Every station seems to have a 50 song or less rotation!!

Just because ABC/Disney is in business for a profit, doesn't necessarily mean that every profitable thing they produce is the best of it's kind. In turn, there are just as many examples of incredibly talented & funny people involved in unsuccesful projects, sometimes due to the restrictions handed down from "on high." Perhaps Kev was hog-tied by the corporate pirates, at least enough to keep him from being himself. Look at where he came from. The old LOOP pretty much let those guys do whatever they wanted. I can see where Kev, over time, would succumb to the pressure... even if it only became apparent through a slow entropy of the show's quality level.
Kev, if you're reading these, we're on your side. We get it. And we want you & yours to be healthy, happy and well. Just as I am sure you would want ours to be.
PS: As a recently relocated Chicagoan now in the NE Wisconsin area, I am going to miss the annual ice fishing trip to the northwoods!!
PPS: During a recent televised Bears pre-game show, was that Jim standing near the stadium gates with a sign reading "I knew Kevin Butler. Feed me."?

Boy i swear keeping up with 'master Kev'gets tougher with time. I've been digging K. Matthews since '91(around the same time he and Howard Stern were in the same radio family then)and i might add that he became a part of my being,personality etc. All i have to say is that we shouldn't lose faith of his comeback. He was a'freed bird' before and he always came back. True kevheads already know his real history in diversity not just adversity and that there is something SUPERspecial and unique about his brand of humor which can bring EVERYone of all walks of life together-just for an laugh,a grossout,but never TOO shocking(like Stern)and being an 'Americanized black'person, i learn somethin' new almost each day he's on. So its all 'wait n see for now but I believe U CANT KEEP A GOOD KEV DOWN...!! LOL

Over the last 2 years (or so) Kev's show started to really suck ass. I mean really bad. I'm not placing blame, but I beleive the format was generic enough to have come from above Kev.
Moe Drive? What a waste of breath! Moe's wife's bits? Just that, a bit. And poorly done at that. The whole show was full of unfunny bits. Gone where the off the cuff thinking and the fly by the seat of your pants humor. Everything was staged and poorly presented to us at the end. And that is just darn right wrong.
The old Kevin would have never subjected us to the crap that was coming from the Zone if it hadn't been for someone higher up. Personally, I think Kev should have left long ago. His show had changed for the worse years before his being let go.
I WANT THE NEW KEV TO COME BACK THE WAY HE WAS IN DAYS PAST! FUNNY!!

I beleive the name of the place is West Creek Farms. It's less that 2 miles from where I hunted pheasant and rabbit many years ago on a relative's farm. I grew up in Beecher(Illinois) and can remember passing by this place many times. I have a feeling that they are no longer in business but I'm not sure. It may be worth a saturday or sunday drive to check it out. I'll try to give you the easiest directions I can, assuming you are coming from "up north"(if you were from Beecher you'd know what that means) 1) Bishop/Ford/394 south to where it turns into Route 1. No turns just keep going straight south into Beecher. 2) At the only stoplight in Beecher-Indiana Avenue- turn left 3) Take this road 5 miles until you must stop at a "T" This is the Illinois/Indiana State Line. 4) Turn right. It's about 2 miles from there to the farm. The last time I was through there, there was a large sign on the left side of the road at the corner. I beleive you would need to turn left at this corner and the business entrance is just a few hundred feet down the road. Hope this helps!

We in the state of Michigan would welcome Kev back with open arms. (Back to where it all started!) I've tried to listen via the web every chance I got but that seemed to get buggered up with arguing about advertisers, etc. I know it's all about the almighty dollar and none of us work for free . . .
But I also agree about the need to stop the whining. We all, well most of us, miss Kevin and hope to hear him soon. So I'll keep checking this board to find information about where we can catch up with him.

How long was his last absence?? Corporate America just doesn't get it..... The ABC's of the world don't care about who entertains you, JUST money. The thing is, is that the show probably did make money. Once an a**hol* always an a**hol*, that sums up the "zone", and abc. Everywhere you turn, there's some jag-off f'ng up a good thing. He'll be back, but it would be nice to find out somehow, when and where!! The 'zone' show was good, but not quite like the older days..................

I agree. WE NEED KEV. I know that a lot of people - including high school and college kids - were starting to discover Kev's show. My 16 yr old daughter, my 21 yr old niece, my 35 yr old sister and my 70 yr old mother all loved it. We all need the laughs and entertainment in the morning - we can get music (whatever kind we each prefer) any time. There is no other show to compare with Kev's. I have searched the radio dial in vain. We need the whole crew back: Kev, Jen, Shemp, Peg and yes, even Mo. Surely some enlightened radio station out there (in Chicago please) will save us. Please???

The inside word is that Kevin's huge weight gain was a worry to all at the station. Rather than allow him to have one health crisis after another, a difficult decision was made to "retire" him at the end of his contract. It is hoped that his reduced income will result in reduced food intake and add years to his life. We will all miss him, except for the large dumps he takes here each morning.

I first met Kev at a grateful dead show in the 80's, and upon hereing that he was dropped I proceeded to erase the zone from all my presets in both cars and on all radios that I own, the only time I listened was in the morn anyway, because their format SUCKS!!!!!!!!

The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?"
They boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there with his mouth hanging open, wide-eyed. So the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God!!?"
Again the boy made no attempt to answer.
So the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "WHERE IS GOD!?"
The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?"
The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time, dude. God is missing - and they think WE did it!"

If it isn't gone already it will be soon. If anyone feels like going to take a pee on the old ITW board this is their last chance before the Nazis at ITW pack up their office and head for the unemployment lines.I have a confession to make, most of my play time over the past year has been spent seeing another board... that's right, I've been cheating.
What makes matters worse is that it's a...>gulp<... Howard Stern Board. Yes, I REALLY have been cheating.
Now screw Stern, I can't take listening to his nasal sidekick, but the message board is a riot. Several Kevheads go there everyday for a laugh. And if that wasn't bad enough, there's more...
I actually WROTE the software that this Howard Stern board lives on. That's right. ITW used to shut down their board up to three times a week, so I wrote a message board system that mimics the ITW format and put them on their own domain.
Of course it's not free anymore, they have to pay $150 a year to live free of censorship, but it's a great frickin' program if I must say so myself.
I'd like to invite any Kevheads bold enough to experiment to visit the 'Traveling Howard Stern Message Board' Listening to Stern is not a requirement, but often a strong stomach is....

Geocities, where all the board graphics were stored, put up a firewall so it is no longer possible to link to graphics on their sites. Thus, no background, no pictures...
We hate them now.
Tripod still offer's webspace that can be linked to.
You'll have to get a site there to move the graphics to, then this place won't look so much like a Klu Klux Klan rally in a snowstorm.

There was panic in her eyes when the ITW crash was annouced. I don't know what she might have done... jump out a window... eat 20 lbs of chocolate... you never know what someone will do when they're pushed to the edge like that.
