Liberals will support anyones religion. Anyone except Christians. They support the witches, voo doo, satanists, american indians religion, the only exception is the Christians. If Christians try to practice their right to religious freedom they are called hateful and bigots. Of course, this is because of the scriptures against homosexuality.

What a silly post. I hope this is just one of the Drunks' alter egos. Just in case... Liberalism in America was largely born out of the Christian tradition. Liberal Republicans fought for the abolition of slavery for purely spiritual reasons. Many of those who rallied against the entrance of the US into the First World War and the latest foray into Iraq did so out of a religious impulse. John Miur found in Protestantism an ethos that inspired his naturalism. Miur’s love of nature launched American environmentalism. Liberal Christians laud social welfare.

Ignoring the reality of Christian contributions to Liberalism in America, the radical right has developed "Dead Jesus." What is this "Dead Jesus" you might ask? Dead Jesus is a jealous god. He seeks to punish the iniquitous. He hides in bedroom closets, carefully noting any instance of buggery and schedules eternal damnation accordingly. He helps only those who can pull themselves up by their bootstraps. He rewards the pious with wealth and fame and punishes moral laxity with penury. He searches for nations who worship "false" gods so he may send His own country, America, against them. Dead Jesus is angry. His crucifixion, far from a sacrifice, is an insult. He thirsts for revenge. He will spend eternity visiting pain upon those who fail to live up to his standard. Who doesn't live up to his standard? The poor, the kind, the suffering, the disadvantaged.

Sandal-wearing, impoverished socialist Jesus, the one who helped those in need, is a stranger to the religious right. He would be angrily turned out of any Christian Coalition meeting as a vagrant. The vocal “religious right” ignores millions of liberal Christians. The Christian doling out sustenance in a soup kitchen is contaminated by his contact with the homeless. He is dusted with the filth of failure and weakness.

The fact is, Hugh, the right wing in America is deeply religious. But their god isn't Jesus; it is Mars. The fields the Jesus would see clothed in grain you would see bathed in blood. I am not a Christian but I have many friends who are. I find your association of the Christian religion with the political right wing insulting. Spewing hatred and inflicting pain, you have not earned the right to call yourself a Christian. Get thee behind me.
