"Life During Wartime", get it?

Well, I was watching MSNBC this morning, and they already had a little countdown clock in the lower right corner of the screen. That is just so fucking cute!

At this point, I am not worried so much about possible backlash terrorism or the end of relations with Europe as the possibility of citizen-on-citizen batshit behavior in our own US of A. On one hand, we have dittoheads and Modern Savages attending pro-War "There is no French in our Poodle" (even though poodles originated in Germany as hunting retrieval dogs) rallies, yet strangely not enlisting afterwards.

On the other hand, my brother is in Air Force ROTC, and I fully expect some anti-war protestors to truly be stupid enough to bring back the old "spit on someone in uniform" tactic, proving that the opposition in this country own ability to shoot itself in the foot relieves John Ashcroft of the need to reinstate COINTELPRO.

There are plans for antiwar civil disobedience action to happen in this country once the bombs start dropping, but I am worried that they will turn into riots, esp when the "anarchist chic" hotheads clash with beefy Faux News Channel watchers that feel that anyone that doesn't have Toby Keith blaring out of their SUV stereo bedecked with tattered and grimy car flags should be tried and shot for treason, preferably by a Loyal Patriotic Citizens Vigilante Squad and Bible Study Group. And not just any riots, really nasty ones. Like Watts meets the 1968 Dems convention bad.

There was a sense of free floating anxiety that ran through the 1990s like a mechanical whine just out of your range of hearing, but made you twitchy anyway. 9-11 gave that anxiety a focus, and anxiety eventually turns into resentment that has yet to find release.
