I used to follow them quite closely.
I was raised by Republicans, although they were basically fiscal conservative-social liberal.
I don't follow the soap opera that is politics anymore because it is way too stressful. I vote on issues, but I avoid getting personally involved in the treachery, lies and general perversion that permeates the government.
I must admit that being around this board and R&R doesn't make it easy to avoid the drama.
The upside is that those who are on both sides usually articulate their positions well, and I can vicariously reap the distillation of others thought, worry and logic, (or lack thereof) while keeping a comfortable distance.
Can one achieve any sort of Zenlike state in todays world?
Maybe...but I think it may require surgery. ;)
