The Daniel Swan, using the term very loosely, "gentleman" blamed his supposed youthful indescretion on "demon rum" and the culture of good ol' boys just having fun.

I don't know if such childish actions are more pathetic than Judge Pickering's activities to, apparently, support the racially-charged crimes by doing what he could to minimize their punishments, but I do know that since Swan and others in his group were caught, they certainly are full of excuses and, except in the instance of the individual adjudged mentally incompetent (no shock there), have no remorse for what they have done. Now, as the article posted by Queer indicates, Swan is holding press conferences, prolly at some GOP operative's behest, to repair the sullied image of Pickering, so it really doesn't matter what someone with a biased take at The Nat'nl Review writes, the issue runs so much more deeper than the resolution of a specific court case back in 1994.
