Subject: A Longing I Cannot Hide

A Longing I Cannot Hide

I watched as you left that day
Till your car went out of sight
I had so much I wanted to say
Tell you it just didn't feel right
I bent my head in silent prayer
Wishing you had stayed with me
Holding you back would not be fair
A free spirit you will always be
At night I sleep on your bed side
Hugging your pillow close and tight
Tears stream down in salty tide
Premonitions of something not right
The smell of your soft perfume
Lends dreams of you my dear
Subtle touches about our room
Illusions of your still being near
I wake up to the morning light
Feeling weak and sick inside
Emotions rage that I can't fight
And a longing I cannot hide
That fateful day I got the word
For our country you had died
Cruelest words I've ever heard
As I sank to my knees and cried
You brought such joy to my life
And such loving to my soul
Now I'm wounded by this knife
Nothing can again make me whole
I spend my daytime wishing night
So I can join you in my dreams
In sleep I kiss and hold you tight
Till I wake pleading silent screams
Yet another day of missing you
God how long will this keep on
If only I could just sleep life through
Never to worry of the coming dawn
I wish that day I had barred the door
You would still be here by my side
Now you're simply a statistic of war
And a longing that I cannot hide

Brian

Many women also suffered and died in war to ensure our freedom, for them we pray!!
