Pride chewed the bit and pranced in place impatiently. Cassidy shortened the reins and laughed. "C'mon silly boy, no piaffes now!" she joked. They trotted up a hill and paused at the top. "Where do you want to go now?" Cassidy asked. "Let's ride to the orchard and back to the barn." "Ok, I love that trail!" Cassidy gathered the reins and Pride sprang into a canter. They covered the ground with fast, silky smooth strides. They pounded down the hill and across the grassy pasture. Then they cantered through a grove of shady trees. The dappled sunlight spilled through the leafy canopy. Cassidy breathed in the summer scent happily, closing her eyes for a moment. Pride had settled down into a calm walk. The woods opened up and a flat, grassy stretch lay before them. Pride nickered. Cassidy knew what that meant. She gathered the reins and leaned forwards eagerly. Jon grinned and dug his heels into Deliah's sides, but Pride was already off. The big Arabian lunged forwards into a smooth gallop. He pounded over the path and Cassidy couldn't have stopped him if she wanted to! She simply hung on and moved with his powerful strides. Finally they reached the end and Pride slowed to a bouncy trot. Jon caught up with them and they walked through an orchard. After the pleasant, calm walk through the orchard, they took a winding trail back to the barn.
