Hey!
Glad you asked...I find good prices at places like C.D. Warehouse (we don't have one here...) Best Buy (again, we don't have one here....) and places like that. Unfortunately, we don't have MOST of the stores that offer C.D.'s at the rock-bottom rates that I was speaking of. But I look at it like this, we're more than willing to pay $2.00-5.00 to just "borrow" a movie from a rental place, or buy a movie for $19.99-29.99 to own it outright. I just don't understand the argument that music costs too much. When you purchase a C.D. these days, you often get added items, like video cd-roms, nevermind the lyrics, photos, etc. that go with the music of your favorite artist. The sad thing is, it's the low-to-middle wage record company employee who's losing his/her job because of the piracy. Theartists are getting their money...the higher-ups are getting theirs, too...it's the middle man...always is and always has been in any industry.
I can tell you this...the more prevalent online music piracy becomes, the more expensive concert tickets will cost. So we'll just have something to REALLY complain about when it comes to outrageous costs, ya know?
Recently, the record companies have pretty much acknowledged that they dropped the ball and LET this technology beat them to the punch, and have tried, for years, to stop it, but since most of the services that are still available are in foriegn countries, it's hard to shut 'em all down. So now, they're starting to put out their own services where people can purchase downloads for low prices, and get freebies along with it. We'll see if people warm up to it.
The latest news on this matter came last week when an internet provider had to identify a customer of theirs who was sharing THOUSANDS of files with people via kazaa...seems there's a class-action lawsuit to sue that person for music piracy, so this could start a trend where the companies go after the people sharing music files...so jail time and/or lawsuit settlements aren't out of the question.
Hey, we're all guilty of it...I just think we might ought to give the repercussions some more thought before racing to download a new song you heard on the radio, ya know?
