Sorry, are you saying that a substantial number of property crimes are attributable to feeding a nicotine habit? In the US?? Where cigarettes are cheap, cheap, cheap (they're $6 a pack here)?

Legalising isn't quite what I am talking about. Changing the way we deal with drugs in general. FOr instance, getting heroin addicts off the streets and into maintenance programs. Not putting users in jail where they can just feed their habits without getting treatment. Having much stiffer sentences for organised criminals.

Our perspectives are no doubt coloured by our experiences. Here pot is a part of organised crime--primarily under the jurisdiction of Vietnamese gangs and Hells Angels in the Lower Mainland right now. The pot that is being produced is the most concentrated stuff on the planet. It's increasingly being exported to the US, where even bigger profits can be had.
