I think it does if you're to have a lasting solution, though.

I don't know that they blamed the Jewish settlers for THAT, but I do think they saw them as being threatening interlopers with the blessing of the British--when it had been promised them that they would have autonomy.

They tried to make it go away in the only way they could. They fought the Jews, not the British. Unfortunately for them, the Jews were remarkably resilient. And it is clear that the two groups have resented each other (hated each other?) ever since. Who did what first isn't terribly relevant to a people who still await the day they return to their ancestral homes in Israel.

I've always wanted to visit NYC. My gfs and I made a pact in fifth grade that we'd go on a trip there when we graduated--the friendships had weakened by that time, but I still have a strong desire to go (probably heightened by Sept. 11). Lately I have been reading books set in NYC and area and it's got me thinking that we should do it (it's always been something DH wanted to do, too).

Let me ask you (since nobody else is reading this anyway :-), NYC is portrayed as a very busy and sometimes dangerous city. How does a tourist with kids do it? Where do they stay, how do they get around, which areas should they avoid for safety's sake?

We want to go to Boston, too. We would like to go next summer (we need to visit our relatives in the Montreal/Ottawa areas), but we'll have to see--we're saving up for a downpayment on another house.

We're having a newspaper strike here and for fun I sub'd to the NY Times instead (Sundays only). It seems like such a vibrant and exciting city--I don't know how anyone could think otherwise.
