Subject: Gender roles in viewing
In reply to: SYNTARSUS 's message, "Re: Gender roles" on 12:58:47 08/27/03 Wed

what i really wanted to get at, though, is...

do you think there is a separation in viewing preferences for gender roles, and if so... how is that significant? especially with respect to violence and the normalization of violence ... ?

i truly think it is a natural phenomenon for males to be more drawn toward "warrior" mentalities, and therefore those more "war-type" of viewings which normalize violence. i also think females are more drawn toward "nurturing" mentalities ... but then again ... i don't see a huge devotion to "nurturing" viewing, either. even with the huge influx of women in the workforce and the advertising directed at them.

maybe women are trying for equality in violence viewing? too macho to express their real interests? or maybe this is a change in the direction of feminine interests and everyone, regardless of gender, is becoming more drawn to and violence in our culture?

comments, anyone?

just speculating...

june
