>How do you feel about Christian radio?

Some of it's probably okay. I don't know about some of the Contemporary Christian Music that is out there, though. I was into that kind of music for a while, but now I think it's kind of weird that Christians are trying to be just like everyone else with their music. Why can't they think of more original styles of music with all different types of instruments? (violin, xylophone, dulcimer, mandolin, clarinet, oboe, etc.) There is one Christian/ Celtic group from Ireland called 'Iona' that I enjoy because the music is original. There is played many instruments and the songs don't all have some sort of repetative beat that detracts from the heavenly essence they are able to, in a sense, create.

If they (the musicians/ singers/ songwriters) are afraid of 'not being popular', that, I think, is a problem. They should strive for excellence, not mediocrity, in all that they endevour, for the glory of the Lord and NOT for the sake of popularity or for 'pleasing the masses'. Even non-Christians sometimes find it strange that Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) is beginning to sound all the same as anyone else's -(in the secular world's)- music. It has come to a point where many are beginning to drown out and water down the Gospel more and more, until nothing sacred will remain (wheather they are conciously aware of this phenomenon or not). Scary thought.

Also, listening to music with a repetitive beat can actually (according to scientfic research), affect the cells of the body. This includes music such as rap, rock, punk, metal, pop (and probably 'trance/ electronica'), etc.

What happens is that the neurons (such as the ones in the brain), after being constantly bombarded with low/ bass vibrations, actually begin to grow erratically, failing to make certain connections. This means it can make your brain cease to function correctly. Music with repetative beats (depending on what it is and how long one is exposed to it) can cause anything from lack of concentration, to a trance-like stupor, to euphoria, to psychosis! (and other physical/ mental ailments or impairments) Music can make your heart beat faster, make you feel depressed, crazy, enslaved or free. It can hurt or heal your body in many different ways. And rock or rap (or any music like that), like a drug addiction, can harm the one who loves craves it. Why do you think music is such a part of us as human beings? It goes down to the very cellular level of our beings (and perhaps more than that).

Those are the reasons why, I try to be careful about what kind of music I listen to (whether or not it has Christian lyrics, is irrelevant to the STYLE that is used in conveying ANY sort of message).

I'm doing some experiments with music to test this information for authenticity. What I have found, so far, is that my guinea pig ALWAYS goes into a trance when I play rock music, but is lively and normal-acting in silence or with classical music playing (actually, classicl music seems to make it even more lively and happy, than just sitting in plain silence).
I have felt my own heartbeat change slightly when listening to repetitious beats (I have a stethscope and will do further research on this phenomenon), and my mind becomes 'foggy' (like when you sit and watch TV for too long!). But when I listen to classical music my spirit feels free, not enslaved, by the music. Try the experiments yourself, and see what happens and make your own decision about whether or not rock music (and the like) are styles are harmful or not, I say. They say plants will grow faster to classical music and will die if constantly exposed to rock music (and how loud it is, isn't supposed to make any difference in the affects of the sound vibrations). I say, that if it harms plants and other mammals, we should be wary of using such music.

So, just in case you were wondering . . . This is why some Christians have debated over styles of music and have called rock and roll 'The Devil's' Music' and 'evil', (especially in the past). Now it's a wonder that it is hardly a debate anymore.

I'm not sure if rock is 'evil' or not, but as for me, I try to avoid listening to it as much as possible, especially since it's effects seem to be nothing but negative,(even my guinea pig and my own body can tell me that much).

Anyone want to add to this topic or ask a question about it? Anyone?
