I think it's part of the same passivity that goes along with television. People go for the ease of the sofa and the remote instead of reaching for something more, likewise they accept whatever is the most exciting, entertaining, rather than turning it off and demanding something better if all that's on is violence and other decadent programming.

Speaking of exciting, I got some junk mail from the cable company recently trying to pass off cable as "exciting." I found that amusing.

There are some who want us to make an effort to teach peace to children. The leaders of our governments in my opinion aren't offering much of an example of efforts at finding peaceful solutions. Violence seems to be more dominant than peace in many cultures. Ghandi though is one exception.
