In reply to: Sara Ebert & C Roper 's message, "It's Sara and C's Movie Review Hut!!! Film Festival Edition!! ~dun dun dun~ Hey don't turn that channel!!....Tonight's entry: Just Like Heaven" on 22:34:43 09/17/05 Sat

They laughed, they cried, they sat in comfortable seats while enjoying the story of Elizabeth and David. Elizabeth (Witherspoon) is a workaholic physician with no time for a social life when she finds her life turned upside-down (and nearly ended) after a terrible accident. She returns, in a state of spiritual limbo, to her apartment 3 months later to find David (Ruffalo) living there. After a rocky beginning, David finally manages to coexist with his ghostly landlord and she asks for his help in finding her identity, what happened to her, and if there is any way to bring her spirit back together with her body. Romance sparks between the two, but can they piece the puzzle together before Elizabeth’s family takes her body off life support and away from David for good?

Our take:
C: I loved it!!!

Sara: I did too!!! Mark Ruffalo was to die for. Yummy.

C: You can say that again…~sigh~

Sara: Just don’t start drooling or you’ll get my computer screen wet!

C: I have my drool completely in check so don't you worry. I have to say though, that the drool comes partly from the fact that a romantic comedy with a supernatural theme has managed to come out without dragging or having any stupid parts.

Sara: Drag is certainly not a term I would use in a review about this movie. I loved the quick pace of the plotline. No one scene was really extended unnecessarily and everything seemed to have a purpose (except for maybe that Katrina woman, I’m still wondering why she was there).

C: I thought the characters were wonderful! Extremely funny and not flat or boring.

Sara: I agree, the chemistry between Reese and Mark was excellent. They really managed to play off each other well, especially in the “public” scenes.

C: I really liked the fact there was no “bad guy” no one person out to destroy everyone’s life. There was a problem but no evil-doer.

Sara: Unless you count the doctor who was out for himself, the real estate agent, or Katrina. (evil smirk)

C: Yes but they weren’t out to get Elizabeth personally.

Sara: Point taken. I really got a kick out of John Heder’s character, Darryl the flaky medium. I really see him expanding since his days as Napoleon Dynamite. He makes a good supporting character.

C: He was very good; and that apartment was an absolute dream!

Sara: Yes! I would move in today if I could afford it…but we’re getting off track.

C: Yes, ~clears throat~ so was there anything that you didn’t like about the movie Sara?

Sara: Very little of note. It was predictable (C’mon people, did you really think she wouldn’t wake up?) but to me all good romantic comedies are predictable. I love knowing that the main characters will get together eventually, it’s the anticipation and the “road” the characters take to get to each other that draws me in.

C: Yeah, yeah, they get together, kiss kiss---can we get to the drinks and umbrellas now? And I need to get out of these heels because my feet are dying here....

Sara: Yeah, but not before you go give a little hello to Topher Grace over there ~points and waves at Topher~

C speeds away from Sara like a bullet out of a gun, walking up to Topher who took her in his arms and laid a big one on her much to the disappointed cries of fans nearby.

Topher: Enjoy the movie, babe?

C: Oh yes, why couldn’t you sit with us, honey?

Topher: I came in late, there was no room by you then.

C: I’m just so popular. Like my fictional cleavage?

C and Topher walked off hand in hand toward the after-party while Sara watched on with a smirk. Ryan Gosling came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her head.

Ryan: Ready to go?

Sara: Sure thing.

Overall, we give it 4.5/5 iced teas with funky little umbrellas in them.
