Subject: Unfortunately, dorm storage at Harvard is only for kids who live more than 150 miles away (which I guess makes sense considering that most of the kids DO live far away). I was able to store my futon under my friends name, but everything else had to come home with me. In addition, I ended up with a whole trunkload of things that belong to my friends which were too valuable/breakable for them to put in storage. Those have yet to make it out of the car. My backseat has also been taken over by this weird shower-stand THING that is in 4 parts that my future roommate found in the trash that she absolutely HAD to have. Theres a good chance those boxes will stay in my trunk all summer haha. Thanks so much guys, you're all a great help!!!
In reply to: C 's message, "I've been reading this thread for the past few days trying to remember what I did with my stuff, because I never had to pack, store, and unpack my things. Then I remembered that I never went home with all my stuff for the summer. My parents moved out of state and the first year I stored things in the dorm attic, then after that I moved into a house and didn't move out until I finished grad school. I've always just gone home for the summer with a suitcase!" on 17:36:57 05/30/05 Mon

[> [> [> [> Amen, sister! When I lived in dorm, you had to take everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, with you when you left your room for the summer. Even if you were coming back to the same room the following year. You wouldn't believe the nice things that people just threw away because they didn't have room in their cars or didn't want to bother taking it back with them. There were some nice finds there! Roomie and I had to leave our futon with a couple of friends who had a house off campus while we were away that first summer. -- Sara, 13:08:11 05/31/05 Tue [1]

[> [> [> [> [> Same here. There was absolutely no storage available and everything had to go for the summer even if you were coming back to the exact same spot the next year. Oh well--luckily for me, my roomie had most of the big furniture! -- AmandaW (I used to start packing things in stages and gradually clear out everything the last couple of months), 20:08:43 05/31/05 Tue [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> Wow...that sucks. Not having storage! Another rule that really bothers some of my friends is the one where they have to be out within 24 hours of their last exam. Usually they aren't too strict about it, but last term my friend had it enforced on him...not pretty -- Canrane, 10:40:18 06/01/05 Wed [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Wow! 24 hours?! That's pushing it. We always had until about two days after to be completely moved out, but before we moved we had to be checked out by an RA which involved having everything out, clean, and fridge defrosted, etc. We had to have everything out of our rooms before our check out time and after we had 15 minutes to get ourselves out physically from the dorm. I haven't a clue why, but they enforced that rule. It feels a bit like being kicked in the butt out onto the street. -- Sara, 12:09:57 06/01/05 Wed [1]
