He offered her his arm, wrapping his hand around hers as he went about making the appropiate introductions, carefully playing her up as the up and coming designer she was was. So there was some embellishment going on but it was all needed to show off what he knew he could predict to come true. His hand was either covering hers on his arm or on her lower back the whole time, making sure she was comfortable but also keeping a close eye on how much champagne she was drinking - the last thing she needed was to be completely lit and trying to schmooze.
