This board is for the discussion of Diana Gabaldon's upcoming novels, her contemporary mystery Red Ant's Head and the Lord John Grey books. Here, we post excerpt announcements and links, and talk about different things we have read pertaining to the books. All messages are to be considered spoilers, so if you don't want to know what is coming up, you probably shouldn't be here!
To join the Yahoo groups list, click on the link above. Please note that this is an announcement only list, not a discussion list. You will not receive any emails from us unless there is a new excerpt. All discussions are held here If you have any questions, please read the FAQ and/or E-mail Vicki (take out the NO SPAM).
To locate an excerpt by message number, click on the above link. Scroll down to where it says "Or Search by Message Number" and enter the message number there. Click Search and it will take you directly to the message.
After 12 years, I think this board has served its purpose and is now going to close. All excerpts can be found by following Diana Gabaldon on Twitter or on Facebook.
Thank you so much to all who have helped over the years, especially Carmen for her diligence in locating excerpts and notifying us all.
Diana's Facebook Page -- Kathryn, 13:17:57 11/16/11 Wed
Diana posts lots and lots of short excerpts on her Facebook page. Thus far she has posted excerpts from The Scottish Prisoner, Written in My Hearts Own Blood and The Space Between (the novella about Michael Murray and Joan MacKimmie) as well as the Outlander 20th Anniversary Edition.
Book 8 excerpt on Diana's blog -- JudithONH, 23:35:05 09/20/11 Tue
I haven't been around the boards much, but since I hosed my middle sister last year (hosed the younger one years ago!), she has now gotten antsy for excerpts and Book 8...can't imagine why. I think she said she's on her 3rd re-read of all 7...in any event, in trying to satisfy her addiction, I found an excerpt on August 26 on DG's blog - about Roger arriving at Lallybroch looking for Jem...in case you haven't seen it. If this is old news, sorry, but I didn't see it mentioned in the recent posts. Judith

Audio Books -- Trisha Carr, 05:50:27 04/19/11 Tue
I have info on where to get audio books but don't know how to let you all know. I don't even know if this is permitted.
A BIG THANK YOU! -- Cheryl (Pensive), 08:43:07 03/29/11 Tue
Just wanted to say thank you to all of you who post regularly - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE DG and her books but am not able to keep up with searching for posts. I SO appreciate you who do!
You might see some things disappear over the next couple of days (buttons, background pic, etc). It's because I'm getting a new service provider and will be moving everything. Also, my email address is going to change so you won't be able to reach me until I update it here. Right now I don't know how long it will take, but it shouldn't be more than a couple of days.
It's spring! At least the calendar says so. Time to wake up from hibernation.
Well, there were quite a lot of excerpts while I was in my cave. I tried to post the links a bit earlier, alone the board wouldn't let me. So now only the message numbers.
New excerpt? -- Lynnie, 16:13:56 02/07/11 Mon
Just noticed one from 'Scottish Prisoner' called 'seasick'(at Compuserve). Is this a new one or one that I somehow missed?
New Excerrpt from the Scottish Prisoner. Happy New year. I'm no good at links. http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ws-books&tid=69741 -- swarl, 20:20:17 01/02/11 Sun
Here's an excerpt from Diana's blog. No mention of what book - but she did confirm that it's Raymond's voice. -- TerriC, 21:29:26 11/14/10 Sun
PROLOGUE
Copyright 2010 Diana Gabaldon
"In the chilly season, when the air grows cold and the spiders die, comes a thin time. The days are short, so all the light of them is concentrated, squeezed between the dawn and dark. This is why the light is different, and each thing has a Shadow. This is when the other worlds draw close, and the barriers between grow thin. In a thin time, they say, you must be careful, because you might walk through a cobweb unthinking, and find yourself Elsewhere.
There is more than one other world; no one knows how many. Some beasts can see one; the dogs will sometimes stare at a blank space on the wall of a cave, and their hackles rise at what they see.
The spam on the board -- Vicki, 20:50:05 10/15/10 Fri
Just a note about the spam that we seem to be getting on the board......
There isn't anything I can do about it beyond what has already been done and deleting the messages when I can.
So please stop freaking out in my inbox :)
And as far as Exile goes, if you want to come on here and say you hated it, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. Go right ahead (cause frankly it wasn't my cuppa tea either), I won't stop you. However.....
Say one bad thing about Diana Gabaldon (and I don't care if you think I misinterpreted what you said) and I will ban you. No second chances. I'm not as nice as Judie.
Jem in the tunnel -- Kim, 22:12:35 10/06/10 Wed
I have read somewhere that there is an accounting of what happen to Jem in the tunnel. Any ideas where?
Click on Herself's Blog for an excerpt posted on Jul 8.This one is from Book 8 and is concerning Jem in the tunnel. -- Lady Grey, 09:12:32 07/09/10 Fri
Does Jem remind you of Claire in this scene? He says "crap" over and over, much like Claire tends to curse in a crisis. And like Claire, he doesn't panic but looks a way to solve the problem.
Would someone please explain Green Slime and where to get it to see the graphic novel excerpt. Is it a book? A collection? A magazine? I'm flummoxxed. -- swarl, 19:32:10 06/25/10 Fri
New Book 8 excerpt -- Karen Henry, 08:45:49 05/24/10 Mon
Diana posted a new excerpt from Book 8 today. She calls it "Willie's cliffhanger pickup". I didn't read it myself (I'm avoiding all Book 8 excerpts) but I thought I'd pass on the link anyway. Enjoy!
My MIL is at her end of days and I have been spending as much time with her and my husband's family as possible. I have turned on the Captcha feature but please be understanding if more spam shows up and I don't get at it right away.
Claire's Parents -- Karen Cormier, 13:08:57 04/05/10 Mon
Hello Ladies, I'm an infrequent visitor to this site but a huge DG fan and I knew this would be the place to go if there was an answer to my question. Did Claire's parents really die in a car accident or did they TT? I thought the answer might be in some of the unpublished material somewhere. Thanks Karen
SPOILER ALERT: There's another excerpt from Book 8. It is message # 193 on page 10 of the ginormous discussion of 'Echo: Claire and Lord John" over on Compuserve. click on compuserve at the top of this page. I don't know how to make links. -- swarl, 10:51:09 03/10/10 Wed
The first Book 8 excerpt!! -- Karen Henry, 18:13:38 03/06/10 Sat
Diana posted the first real excerpt from Book 8 today, in honor of the 22nd anniversary of the day she started writing a novel for practice.
I did NOT peek at this one (you'll notice Diana warned me specifically, as an excerpt-avoider, not to read it!) but I wanted to make sure the folks here were aware of it.
I just saw the painting of Claire as she will appear in the Graphic Novel. While DG says it's a preliminary portrait, what I'm wondering is where is her curly hair!? And her upper lip looks artificial. I would prefer a more 'forties hairstyle with Claire's unruly curls and red lipstick of the period. She looks too much like a contemporary woman. I do like her eyes. Her brows look too plucked. They should be fuller and more natural. -- Lemora, 02:53:03 02/20/10 Sat
The first glimpse of Book 8... -- Karen Henry, 10:27:46 01/31/10 Sun
Diana posted a line today on Compuserve that may or may not end up becoming the first line of Book 8.
unpublished excerpts -- Susan G (Susan G), 19:23:06 01/22/10 Fri
Where is the unpublished excerpts boards that Vicki set Up? I found it mentioned but couldn't find it...?
Ian and William -- marian (puzzled), 21:42:24 11/18/09 Wed
Hi I am a huge fan of Jamie and Claire and all of the Outlander books. I was wondering why Ian was calling William "Cousin" when he found William in the swamp. Did I miss something in the last book? Maybe I read it far too quickly. I usually read the previous book before I read the new one, but I didn't this time.Perhaps I should have. I don't remember Claire fixing Lord John's head with sixpence either.?? Can anyone remind me what I missed and what chaper it would be in the last book? I am about half way though the book right now. I wish there had been some maps, I love Maps,I will have to get out my map of the Eastern U.S. to see where they are.
