Subject: Last Episode

Can I get some input about QL's last episode? I thought I had understood it at one time, but seeing it again confused me once more. Now I think Sam just disappeared and is no longer leaping. If he was still leaping, why had he never returned home for a "sabbatical" as the bartender suggested he could do? Also, that Al thing confused me. I think once he corrected Al's life, he changed his own history with QL. But if that is so, then why would he never return home? I'm so confused! As I said, I once thought I got it, but that was some time ago and I can't remember the conclusion I came to that satisfied all my time questions. Anyone want to chime in and confuse me some more? :) Thanks.
