In reply to: Freda 's message, "Rude and other boards" on 17:25:25 10/25/01 Thu

I'm sorry, Freda, but I really don't think you read my whole post. First of all, there was no 'flaming'. No one called anyone an idiot or cursed at them. I merely said that I felt that people who touted other boards might have the best of intentions, but that I felt it was rude because they were implying that they didn't think this board was good enough for us and only their sites were. I think that's pretty insulting.

If they only said they didn't like Brian's rules, that would have been fine, since they're entitled to their opinion. But to say that they don't like his rules and then to say, 'so come to my site instead', that's just not nice and in my opinion it's an attempt to steal guests. If someone came to your party and said, 'this party isn't good, come to mine next door instead' wouldn't you think that was rude?

Now, if OTHER people had said, 'gee, Brian's rules suck, I wonder where else I can go', then it would have been appropriate for someone to make a suggestion. But that's not what happened. THEY said Brian's rules weren't good so people should come to them. That's why it was rude. Who asked them for this information? They've posted the information about their sites many times before, too. It's wasn't like, 'oh, btw, I have this new site, come take a look'. It was like, I know I've told you about it hundreds of times before but people are still coming to Brian's board instead of to mine, so since I want you to come there and not here any more, I'll insult the rules here so you'll maybe come to mine instead.

And I'm glad you get to go to a lot of different sites, but not all of us have that much time. We don't all go chatting from place to place so when we find a place where we are happy we like to stay there. No one likes someone coming by and insulting our choices. Did you notice that only the people who were touting other boards even complained about the rules here? I think that says a lot.

So again, I'm sorry if you think someone was flamed because that was not my intention, but I still think that insulting the host here and his rules (saying things weren't 'free enough' for them IS insutling) was worse. I don't think they were really thinking of the people who come here and what their needs are, I think they were just anxious to make their board sound better. This isn't a contest!
