Addendum to my previous comment:

No insult to your friend but the last "Trek-spert" I heard was on the radio and said the first captain of the Enterprise NCC-1701(the same Constitution class ship that Kirk commanded) was Zebulon Pike. BIG MISTAKE! Zebulon Pike was a REAL explorer (Captain of the United States Infantry) and founded the mountain Pike's Peak here in Colorado. Christopher Pike was the first captain of the Enterprise NCC-1701. So, I don't really take the word of "Trek-sperts".
