Not really. Is it as funny as Hoffman's speech about layers to Schwartzman in Huckabees?" Way funnier. "I just assumed they were mocking other movies that flesh out the characters and then cop-out at the end." The Shrek movies are not pure spoofs. Like "The Princess Bride," they have a certain level on which they're straight fairy tales. The buddy-buddy interaction is mostly done in earnest, though there are A FEW sendups. "I must say, however, that you are WRONG!!! Banderas was funny in the third one and you know I HATE John Cleese." You are way wrong. Cleese is a genius. "YES!!!! That scene in the bar was BRILLIANT and well-crafted. Perfect on all accounts right down to making the evil step-sister a tired old bar wench." "She" was introduced in the second film. "That was gay. I'm Catholic and therefore NOT AFRAID to have millions of kids around me. You know what I mean. I want to have 6 kids and therefore, storylines that feature the dread of what a HUMAN LIFE does to one's lifestyle NEVEr work on me." Now you're the one taking it too seriously. It was a hilarious sendup to the dream-within-a-dream sequences and commitment-phobic male characters in standard movies. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
