Its seems I've lost my dog to my daughter :) Ever since Emma was born, Precious has taken on the role of her "guardian". Anywhere you find Emma crawling around you will find Precious somewhere near by. Usually between her and the door.

Its odd how Precious can come to her when Emma makes a certain noise. I'm starting to wonder if Emma's "training" her in baby talk. Its definately new to me! The more I observe, Emma will make a "hey" sound and Precious will come and sit before her as to comfort her but not close enough to be in her way.

I never leave them unsupervised, thats just rediculous but at the same time, I don't think I'd ever have to worry about Emma getting into anything. All it took was one time for me to tell Emma "no no mommy is cooking in the kitchen" (she kept trying to crawl to me and pull up on my pants leg) and Precious got in front of her and laid down making a block so she couldn't come in the kitchen. I just had to laugh.

Has anyone else experianced this type of behavior with their dogs?
I'm never trained her to do any of this and Precious has limited experiance with babies and toddlers (as do I). She's been around older children on occasions but never one in our home since birth.

I'm wondering if she's guarding becuse she knows its my baby or if its maternal instinct from her own mothering experiance.

She's due to whelp today and I'm curious to see Emma's reaction to puppies! She's 7 months now and curious about everything.
