I know most metal roofing products we get are a galvanized metal with a finish applied to them. I do not forge metals for a living but I believe that a tin (click for tin info) roofing product and metal products are the same thing. I've been roofing since 1985 and have never ran across a roofing product that defined itself as a tin ore. They are commonly galvanized steel, aluminum, or copper.

Most metal roofing products are a galvanized steel product (click for galvanizing info). The galvanizing process has made metal roofing more affordable with an acceptable cost to performance ratio for many consumers.

Tom Black, Executive Director of the Metal Roofing Alliance has an informative article published HERE at the traditional-building.com site.

Hope this helps,
Tim Soth / A Roofer
