Interesting. I can see some problems at a technical level however. The first would be the problem of the Feds detecting the Carrack in a blizzard??????? I mean it's 350 meters long starship for pete's sake! That's bigger than a Constitution or Miranda class starship (it's nearly the lenngth of the Intrepid!). Why would a blizzard cause them problems detecting something that big? They've never been shown to have snow blind their subspace sensors. We know that they can scan through several km of rock, so a few flakes of iced water are unlikely to block sensors that effectively.

The second point would be the Carrack going to hyper close to the planet. I thought that a planet's gravity well caused problems for hyper. The Carrack would have to head a way out into space before jumping. What is the shortest jump we have ever seen? I think its 1/2 a light year. Can you think of anything shorter? If not, the Carrack is going to it's going to massively overshoot the asteroid field.

Thirdly, I'm pretty sure that the Galaxy can beam up their crew before the Carrack can make orbit. In that case, the Carrack would find a Sovereign, an Intrepid and a very angry Galaxy class waiting for them. Somehow I don't see the Carrack surviving long.

Fourthly, where is the Imperial fleet hiding? A Galxy class sensor range is something like 17 light years. If they are in the field, there are two problems. Firstly why can the Feds not detect the Imperial them? An ISD II is substantially larger than most (though not all) of the asteroid in the field, and would probably stand out unless completely powered down. Secondly, if they are in the field, then they would not be able to go to hyper.

Also, I don't believe that a Carrack could 'throw' a large enough asteroid, fast enough, at the Intrepid to hit it before the Intrepid can dodge?

Finally, given that Federation ships are substantially more manouverable than an ISD (and maybe/probably the Carrack and Dreadnought too), and much faster at sublight speeds than any of them, the chances of the Imperial force chasing them into the asteroid belt and keeping them there seems low.

Don't get me wrong, this is a tough match up, and I'm not sure that the Feds can win. It's just that this scenario seem a bit biased to the Imperial side. The Imperials get the advantage of home ground, a strange sensor problem for the Feds, a prepared ambush, and even a lucky event ("The Intrepid is clipped by an asteroid, damaging her drives"). Given those advantages, I'm not surprised you think they can win!
